This manga... All time favorite. It tops basically anything in my book. I read it once, fell in love. Read it again, it owned my soul.
Normally I can't read a manga more than once (just like with any book I read), but I can re-read Jiraishin over and over again, notice things I didn't the first time I read it. And the manga never ceases to frost over my core and send me whirling into an amazing, if dark and gruesome, mindset.
Kyoya Ida is a hard-nosed detective from the Shinjuku Police prescient. He is known in the force as an unreasonable type who would use lethal force to solve cases, making him unpopular with the enlisted and high-ranking officers in the National Police Agency. Despite this fact, there are some in the force that admire Ida for his bravery and cleverness in using lethal force to solve criminal cases whenever legal means are met in a dead end.
This manga is not for the happy-go-lucky, the weak stomached and willed, or the easily disturbed. It will make you realize things you might not want to realize, it will disturb you, and it will make you realize just how fucked up human beings are. It's an absolutely amazing manga.
You can read Jiraishin here.Cassiel Kelner of Aesthesticism.com praised the manga as a study on human nature, "reminding [readers] just what people really are capable of." Serdar Yegulalp of Advanced Media Network compares Jiraishin to Miami Vice as the "blood, grit, and sin spatter so thickly that it’s a miracle you don’t get your fingers dirty when you turn the pages."

03-20-2010 03:39 PM #2The first chapter is LOL worthy. That chick is so pathetic and her brother is... secretly gay for Ida. It's impossible to LOL at most of the other chapters though. (I'm pretty sure I've managed it though. oo; )

It was just so ------- random...Albeit, it can be something anticipated, I still found it random.
One of my favorite chapters is the one with the German guy with two eyes, with the twin sisters and babies. I also love the kid who killed his mother who Ida like, pokes his eyes out. Subliminal messages ftw.
