The pitch black night sky gave Samuel a great cover, but it also caused everything around him to look suspicious and uninviting. Bare feet pelted the forest floor, occasionally hitting stones that had become camouflaged in the leaves. In the not-so far off distance the familiar sound of an animal's paws and breathing could be heard trailing Samuel closely. Trying desperately to escape the nearing grasp of the animal, he tried to return to his original form. A wolf. It just wasn't coming to him though, it was like he had forgotten how. Which wasn't something you could easily do, either.
A sudden growl errupting roughly out of what could now clearly be identified as another wolf caused Samuel's head to jerk backward instinctively. Piercing yellow eyes seemed to glow in the darkness, and they weren't even ten feet from Samuel now. The very dark features of the wolf were becoming clearer as the moon rose higher in the sky as if it's only purpose was to provide light for Samuel so that he could tell who was chasing him. His eyes widened and he absent-mindedly slowed down slightly as the wolf's body was fully exposed in the moonlight. This male was... canine teeth flashed and an earsplitting howl of pain echoed throughout the forest.
A week. That's how long it had been since Taylor had joined Samuel's class. That's also how much time Samuel had, had to try and get close to the boy, to get him on his side, to make a bond of 'trust.' Sadly Samuel's plan to get the boy to trust him just to mess with the male was currently failing horribly. Everytime Samuel had started to mess with Taylor, the more the boy would open up to him causing Samuel to not want to do anything even slightly mean to him. It irriated Samuel so much, but he couldn't do anything about it. This feeling.. what was it called? Kindness, it had over-taken him and caused him to be protective over Taylor and feel almost obligated to make sure nothing happened to him.
That wasn't even the worst of it, apparently other people had started noticing that Samuel was becoming more caring and they felt that they could open up to him as well. A few times Samuel had just snapped and taken out all his rage on the unfortunate person that had thought for a moment they could actually trust and be near him. It felt like the wall Samuel had worked so hard to put up between himself and everyone else was tumbling down, and it had started cracking when Taylor had joined his class. Samuel's emotions had been spinning out of control ever since then, a part of him enjoyed having someone to talk to, but then it became annoying at times to listen to other people's problems.
"Samuel!" a familiar voice called out to him causing the boy to look over his shoulder to see who had called his name. "Hey, Samuel." Taylor caught up to him and easily maintained the walking speed that Samuel was walking at. The two walked down the hallway in a still silence for about five minutes before once again Taylor decided to speak up. "Lunch together?" he questioned Samuel curiously.
"Sure, why not," Samuel responded shortly. Although it was pretty obvious to anyone that he and Taylor had become close friends quickly, Samuel was still trying to keep his 'reputation' as someone that wasn't very approachable. The boys entered the noisy cafeteria together, got their lunches, and went to the back of the room to claim their usual spots. Samuel had choosen a rather simple lunch today. A peanut butter sandwhich, a water to feed his thirst after finishing his sandwhich, and his usual apple. Taylor on the other hand had gotten a rather 'complicated' lunch. He had gotten a hamburger on weat bread, which he would tear apart to eat the meat first and the the bread afterward, pickles that he wouldn't actully put on the hamburger, and a white skim milk.
When lunch was over the only thing to look forward to was that there were only two periods left that he had to live through somehow and then he could go home. Right in the middle of the second to last period of the day something in Samuel stirred, causing him to look around as if someone else might've felt it as well. When no one else appeared to have felt anything he went back to staring at the wall right above the teacher's head so that he could say he was paying attention. Again, that feeling inside Samuel moved this time a bit more aggressive. Once again, Samuel glanced around the room only to see that no one else had felt anything. He had started to glare back at the wall when the same thing inside him threatened to break out, then it dawned on Samuel what was going on. "Damn it!" he cursed under his breath and bolted out the classroom door without a word to anyone else.
He had to get away, far away from any sort of human contact. It was almost too lucky, there was a forest right by the school, Samuel felt like he was in one of those movies where a forest magically appeared just because the person needed one to. Now wasn't the time to be worrying about that, Samuel quickly entered the forest and didn't quit running until he was deep in the heart of the forest. Samuel was relieved that he was alone and had made it in time but relief was washed away as an almost unbearable pain took him over, it felt like it was grasping him harshly by the chest. "Samuel?"
Samuel froze. This voice.. it was familiar, it was too familiar. He turned quickly around to find Taylor's worried face glaring back at him. "What's wrong Samuel? You just suddenly burst out of the room, everyone was worried," he stated. Taylor had started to move closer but Samuel's look of anger told him to stay where he was. Samuel's inner wolf was tugging roughly at him, and in only minutes he would completely lose himself.
"Get out!" he ordered. "Now!" he growled, and tried to push Taylor away but lost his balance and fell on his knees. He grasped his neck desperately, it felt like he wasn't getting the air he needed. "Out!" was the only thing that he had managed to say before he felt himself being whisked away.
"W-why?" Taylor questioned, with a touch of regret in his voice like he really hadn't wanted to know why.
Samuel could no longer form any words, his mind was going blank as he was being turned over to his normal self. For a few intolerable minutes it felt like his flesh was ripping away from his body, causing him to let out a very small yelp. His whole body was beginning to change, the normal human teeth were now too big for his mouth and almost cutting into his tongue they were so sharp. If Samuel's eyes hadn't of been closed you would've noticed that they no longer belonged to a human, rather a canine. Then it stopped. The pain, it simply quit. The place where a slender young brown-haired boy had once stood was now occupied by a 160 pound brown wolf. "Because I didn't want you to see what I truly am.." Samuel answered mentally.
